Letters Patent

Improvement Districts are brought into existence by the provincial government through Cabinet Orders which authorized the passage of a document known as Letters Patent.

The SHAWNIGAN IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (SID), was incorporated by its Letters Patent issued on October 27, 1950.

The objects of the SID include the provision of fire protection and street lighting and all matters incidental thereto.

The Letters Patent contains a description of the SID boundary, the size of the Board, and the services it is responsible for providing to the residents within its boundary.
